There is a story today in the New York Times about how a group of conservative intellectuals, many of whom are associated with the Claremont Institute, are moving together to communities in Idaho, Texas, Tennessee and Kentucky so that they can live in what they call “an ambient Christian culture.” They want to be surrounded by fellow conservative Christians.
Undoubtedly, there is a lot in the article others would find stifling, and you have to wonder how their admiration for Donald Trump can be at all Christian, but I believe they are right to be thinking about cultural renewal in a specific way.
Secularists have to begin to think about the culture in similar terms. How do we build a healthy secular culture?
